Laura made landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border early Thursday as a Category 4 major hurricane with a maximum sustained wind speed of 150 mph. According npr.org “Laura is the 10th hurricane to make landfall in the continental U.S. with winds of 150 miles per hour or higher since modern record keeping began in 1851.” It will become the seventh named storm to hit the continental U.S. before the end of August, breaking the current record of six. With wind speeds of 150 mph at landfall, Laura has become one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the U.S. on record.
